Upgradation


UPGRADATION:
UPGRADING:  is moving from one (current) release level to a higher (new) release level.
The new release comes with new features in terms of technical aspects & functionality.
Compare reports are producing during the initial upgrade  pass for redeveloping customizations.
STEPS:
PREREQUISITES:
1.       We will download upgrades template,upgrade planning required for upgrade, UPG convert,upgrade required data, upgrade data & upgrade pdf & html files.
(a)    Then we will check the certification path (means PT 8.48.08) for upgrade. From  PT 8.48.08 only we can upgrade People Tools.
2.       When Template will open on change Assistant then it is called upgrade tab.

1.       First we will install new release in DEMO server & other s/m will take the copy of Production..
2.       After installing we will take compare report of source & target env. That report will give to the functional resource team.
3.       The functional resource will check the functionality, analyze features & customizations in the existing version.
4.       The team will analyze with *Changed & *Unchanged objects.
5.       The functional resource team will decide what to keep & not to keep based on the functional requirements & move this compare report from source to target.
6.       After we will install change assistant C:\PSHOME\HRDMO\setup\PSCA\setup.exe
7.       Open change Assistant I.e (programs->People Tools->Change Assistant)
In the home page we will goto Tools->options

8.  After that  we have to create a job I,e Template will open using change Assistant I,e File->Import Template(Means upgrade s/w)
 
9.    After that we have to create New ‘ENV’ I,e File->New Environment
10.  After this it will ask some more questions about the environment.
       The DB tool is osql.exe for sql server MSSqlserver/90/Tools/Binn/osql.exe
     The DB Tool is sqlcmd.exe for oracle server I,e oracle/product/10.20.0/db_1/bin/sqlcmd.exe
 
11.  After that we will click on Test Connection   àit will show conncetion successful message. 
     If any server is down , It will show “Connection Failed” Message. 
12.       Now the environment is setup. We need to create a JOB I,e (GOTO File->New Tab)
·         Choose the template name that we imported earlier I,e (PeopleTools_only_upgrade)
·         After that choose new env that we had already created. I,e (HRDMO).
·         After that we have to choose upgrade type.

                  13.    In this it has some sub steps that are automatically done & some steps we have to run manually.

In the above window we will execute the steps.
14.       In subtasks we will do
         (a)    Updating statistics
         (b)   Running initial DDD Audit Reports
         (c)    Running initial SYS Audit Reports
         (d)   Running initial Alter Audit Reports
         (e)   Reviewing initial Audits
         (f)     Reviewing Table Row counts
         (g)    Purging merge queues
         (h)   Clean up people tools data
         (i)      Booting servers.
15.       All the steps will apply according to the information given in each step. 
16.       We will follow the doc given by clicking +sign on each field. 



Important Questions about PEOPLE TOOLS Upgrade:
Initial Pass: In this we create a copy of production DB referred to as copy of production
·         After upgradation upgrade copy of production is source & production DB is target.
·         When you perform final pass our upgraded production DB performs as you expect.
Update Statistics: To improve query performance & ensures that queries compile with upto date & statistics.
·         It will recompile the queries i.e dbms_stats
Compare: It takes place b/w DEMO Env & copy of production DB.
·         It is to identify the objects & s/m data.
·         To delete Data File
Drop tablespace  tablespace name
Running Initial Audit Reports: By running these reports ensures that DB is as clean as possible for the remainder of the upgrade.
Feedback Analysis: After  downloading template, related upgrade document. It will be given to functional resource team. They will analyze the documents.
